10 Huge SEO Tips You Can't Live Without!

1. Prepare yourself for the long haul. Rome wasn't built in a day and neither will your website reach the #1 spot in that time. It doesn't matter how clever or intuitive your strategy is... Unless you happen to know Google's algorithm. Which nobody outside of Google does, and you should be thankful for that because if people did know it then it would likely become more of a bot race then a human race and Google would fail the same way older search engines did. Anyway SEO requires time and patience! So don't give up after a couple of months. Your efforts are paying off.

2. When hiring an SEO firm - Make sure you ask a lot of questions about the company. Find out how it is they are increasing your SEO rankings. Ask what specific tactics they use. Become a student of SEO yourself so that you know there methods are working for you.

3. Web Analytics! Web Analytics! Web Analytics! - I can't stress the concept enough. From the very get go, you should have in place web analytics to measure the results of what is being done. That way if something is or is not working, you can choose to either get rid of it or find something else to replace it. Remember it's all about the ROI.

4. Build a Great Website - This step is really one of if not the most important steps in SEO. It doesn't matter how much money you spend on your SEO campaign if your web conversion sucks. All that money will be spent for nothing. Having a great web site not only increases your chances of success once the user is on your page. But it also is likely to increase your ranking in the SEO. Google, Bing and Yahoo love the smell of fresh content and tantalizing designs!

5. Keyword Research - Before you build or do anything, know your keywords. This way all of the steps you take in the future will provide the maximum results. When designing a web page, every page can then be optimized for your keywords. This includes meta tags, the header, the body of content and even the images. And of course everything else you do regarding your online advertising should then include these keywords. Some great trackers include WordTracker and AdWords Keyword Tool.

6. SEO-URLS - Use your keywords in your URLS. I cry every time I see a URL that looks like this: "http://www.somewebsite.com/1238/helz/21387/z7fs". This is one of the biggest wastes that you can make when creating a website. But don't overdo it either! Things begin to look a bit spammy with too many keywords in the URL, 3 or 4 max is best. Here is a good example: "http://www.somewebsites.com/services/seo/strategys".

7. Use Social Media Marketing Wisely - If your business is focused on visuals, join the appropriate social networks. Flickr, pinterest, photobucket etc... If your business sells products, talk about them in blogs. Word press, blogger etc. Even share the blogs with different bookmarking tools. Delicious, Digg, reddit etc. And of course nearly every business should involve themselves with the big wigs. Reddit and Facebook. Everybody and their mother is on those two, so why not become a part of it. Also if you're new into the social media scene then check out knowem.com. Knowem is a great tool for marketing yourself to a wide range of social media networks. We use Knowem often times with our clients.

8. Backlinking! - This is probably one of the biggest steps out of then ten. Granted you need a great website and place to backlink to. But nevertheless don't forget to do it. Every time you put something up somewhere, make sure there is a backlink to your website. This pretty much guarantees you more web traffic with everything you do. Also having great content is a surefire way to get people to want to backlink to you. In a lot of ways backlinking is like voting for Google search engine spot #1. The more backlinks your website has the higher up you go!

9. XML SITE-MAP - Google robots will tear up and destroy your website without one. You don't want those dirty little suckers digging through all of the wrong places lowering your rankings in the SEO line. Make sure that you have one set up and once you do, make sure Google knows about it. Here is a great website to have an XML sitemap built: http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/ Once that's done submit it to Google's webmaster.

10 Avoid Flash! - Yes we all love it. It's beautiful, catchy, brightens the imagination but it certainly kills your chances at SEO. The problem with it is that you can't link to a single page:/. IF you absolutely must use flash, use it sparingly and place text and navigation links below the fold, AKA the "Read More" button.
